Frequently Asked Questions

What If My Pet Isn't A Dog?

Well then, I'm sorry to have excluded you this long! Animals of every kind are welcome to book a photoshoot.

My Dog Is Crazy, how will you get photos?

Don't you worry at all! All of our photoshoots are catered to the individual and situation - if you think running around a creek or going on a hike sounds more enjoyable for your pooch than posing and looking at the camera, candid photos often come out better than posed ones. We can absolutely come up with a game plan together.

What should I wear?

I always advise for your outfit to be, first and foremost, comfortable, but also something timeless! It also helps to think about a color scheme including your outfit, your pet's coloring and what might go well with their fur, collar, leash or bandana. I'm also always happy to help come up with something cohesive for you and your friend.

Should my Dog be Trained?

Any model's skill level is perfectly acceptable! If you're looking for posed family portraits where everyone is sitting and looking at the camera then you may want to brush up on the basics, but most of my favorite photos come from when your best friend is doing whatever they please and truly being themselves!

Should My Pet Be Groomed?

It depends on the dog! If they get groomed regularly, we can easily schedule around that, but some dogs never end up going to the groomer. So for those I would recommend a bath and brushing close to the photoshoot date.

What if My Pet Can't Be Off Leash?

Not a problem at all! Most of the dogs (and cats!) I've photographed have actually been on-leash. Safety is always the number one priority, and a little bit of "Photoshop magic" to remove a leash can make any pet friendly location available. Long leashes are also a great way to give your friend some freedom.

What Kind of Collar and Leash Should I Bring?

Any clean, plain collar please! We can remove neutral colored collars upon request, and almost all leashes will be automatically removed. However, if your pooch wants to make a statement with a bandana or sparkly collar, grab those too! Unfortunately, harnesses and martingales cannot be removed, so regular collars are preferred, but not necessary if the harness is clean and well-fitting.

What location should I pick?

Location choice is probably my favorite part of the process (besides of course, meeting your pup!). Where we end up at always helps create the mood of the images. If you'd like to start to start thinking about urban versus woods, or old structed stone path versus a field of flowers, please let me know and I'm sure I will have a few places to suggest!

Will I Need to Pose?

If you would like! If you'd like to be in the photos, I always try to snag one or two of you and your pup both looking at the camera and smiling. However, most of the best shots come from candid moments where you're simply scratching their ear or reaching down to hand them a treat. And if you'd like examples, there is a posing guide linked at the bottom of this page!

Can we have the session at my house?

Of course! I have worked with pets of all kinds. If you think your baby will do best staying at home, we will still get amazing images. I would always rather everyone be comfortable and safe - especially because if your pup isn't feeling their best, they won't look fully themselves.
